NEW DELHI: Police busted an inter-state gang of highway robbers and arrested four persons, who used flashlights to distract truck drivers before overpowering them and looting their goods.
A truck containing medicines worth Rs 1.25 crore and a car were recovered from them, police said. Police led by ACP (Sultanpuri) Jasmeet Singh nabbed Sanjay, 22, Sonu, 20, Suresh, 23, and Sandeep, 27 — all natives of Bhiwani, Haryana.
They were arrested while transporting their booty to Haryana. “Efforts are on to nab other gang members — Satish, Pawan Saini, Rajesh, Jangbir — who are on the run,” said a senior police officer.
“We got a tip-off on December 9 that a truck loaded with medicines had been stolen on the highway. On December 17, around 7pm, police noticed a truck coming from Rohini and ordered it to halt near Sultan Puri bus terminal. The accused were caught with medicines worth Rs 1.25 crore,” said B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer district).
“Investigations have revealed that the looted medicines were hidden in Mundka while the stolen truck was kept at Burari. We waited for three days for the criminals to come back, before seizing the stolen truck on December 13. We received a tip-off that the gang had stolen another truck on the same night too,” he said. They had followed the truck and stopped their car with flashlights in front of the truck and robbed it.
“They gagged and bound the driver and his help before dumping them on an isolated stretch near Hisar. They returned to Delhi and dumped the medicine cartons near Ghevra and were searching for customers to dispose of the looted medicine,” said Jaiswal.
